Books can be made back into bookcases, which can be turned into Magical Wood for one gold and 4 levels. On your trip to the city, make sure to grab books as well as the smeltery parts. Oh, and grow your cactus (and sugarcane) on Snad (made with two sand). Without an infinite water source, it takes lots of water to make clay and soul sand. I did much the same with a Progressive Automation Planter for a cactus farm, which feeds into a bunch of oak crucibles to make water. Once you have a Tinker's Smeltery, an all-paper hatchet can be upgraded with four Reinforcements (8 obsidian around any cast), to become Unbreakable. It will pull the pellets into the fuel slot as needed, and push everything else out. Then fill most of the internal slots with fuel pellets. The Chopper will push logs, saplings and apples into the drawer. Stick a 4-slot drawer on top, and make sure all four slots are filled (or lock the drawer). They won't grow planted right next to each other.
Upgrades are cheap, but you have to make sure you only put down dirt in a checkerboard pattern where the saplings will actually grow. I like the Progressive Automation Chopper for an early automated tree farm: Add a hopper and a storage drawer, and I'm set for cobblestone for a long time.Įnder IO Conduits are really expensive, but the ExtraUtils Transfer Pipes and Nodes are pretty cheap. I think I used my first 6 pieces of iron for the buckets of water and lava (the clay buckets didn't work).
